The Partium – From the River to the Ocean dance theatre performance, as part of the Keszthely Dance Panorama, showcases the diverse folk dance and musical culture of the Partium region. With the collaboration of the Duna Ensemble and the Göncöl band, we can see and hear dances and songs of Hungarian, Romanian, Roma, and other peoples.
As part of the XXIV. Keszthely Dance Panorama: Partium – From the River to the Ocean performance by the Duna Ensemble. Partium is a region located between present-day Hungary and Transylvania, rich and colorful in culture. Its geographical extent has frequently changed throughout history's storms, making it difficult to define the exact original area of Partium. The current meaning of Partium includes the counties of Máramaros, Szilágy, Szatmár, Bihar, and Arad. Its ethnic map is very diverse, with a majority of Hungarian, Romanian, and Roma populations, alongside Slovaks, Bulgarians, Serbs, and Croats living in the region. Partium is abundant in famous personalities, natives of this area include among others: Endre Ady, Domokos Szilágyi, János Arany, Ferenc Kölcsey, Árpád Tóth. The performance touches on the identity issues of the people of Partium, discussing their urban and peasant existence, the region's unique cultural diversity, and the relationship between Hungary and Partium. Hungarian dances from Sárrét and Szilágyság appear, as well as Romanian dances from Keményfok and Nadab, Roma dances, Roma dances from Mácsa, Bulgarian dances from Vinga, Hutsul dances from Máramaros, and Slovak songs from around Nagylak and Arad performed by Zsuzsanna Csasztvan, Young Master of Folk Art. The production is created by the Duna Ensemble and the Göncöl band. Participants include: Márk Horváth – actor, Zsuzsanna Csasztvan – Young Master of Folk Art – vocals, Zsolt Barcza – accordion.
