Balatonfüred DIFFERENTLY! Synagogue Tour - City Walk - Visit to the House of Jewish Excellence with an authentic guide Starting from the renovated old synagogue, we explore the daily life route of a classic rural Jewish community. Our authentic guide is the son of the last leader of the Füred Jewish community, with whom we track down the ritual bath, the ritual circumcision house, and the former site of the denominational school, while learning about Jewish dietary, worship, family, marital, hygiene, and burial customs. We marvel at the houses of religious and community leaders: the rabbi and the community president, and tell stories about the learning and charitable customs and conflicts that took place inside and outside the walls. We revive the memory of families commemorated by stumbling stones laid in two places, then learn about the story of the creation of the "humane" local bank that financed vineyard plantations after the phylloxera plague and marvel at the still elegant remains of its building. A few steps further, in front of today's library building, we recall the nationally significant, sad event of 1944, when the completion of the Jewish removal from the Hungarian sea was announced. At the end of our walk, participants can visit the virtual exhibition "Jews and High Technology – From Einstein to the Present Day" created in the new wing of the synagogue, presenting 132 mostly Nobel Prize-winning scientists in Hungarian, English, and Hebrew, as well as the permanent digital exhibition opened in December 2021 titled "Jews and the Arts – From Chagall through Kertész to Spielberg." Meeting place: House of Jewish Excellence (ZsKH) reception (Balatonfüred, Bajcsy Zsilinszky u. 32.) Route: Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street – Dózsa György Street – Kossuth Lajos Street – Felső köz – Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street Walk length: 1.5 km Duration: 2 hours Difficulty level: easy Recommended attire: weather-appropriate Parking: street parking spaces opposite ZsKH Participation fee: 5900 HUF – which includes admission to the exhibition –, payable simultaneously with online registration on jegy.hu.
