The Symphony Orchestra of the Saint Stephen King Music School invites music lovers to a light summer relaxation. The repertoire is extremely wide-ranging, encompassing the most famous film scores, overtures, symphonies, suites, and concert pieces. Young soloists create an unforgettable atmosphere with grand works on this summer evening. The Symphony Orchestra of the Saint Stephen King Music School was founded in 1968 by József Záborszky with the aim of ensuring the musical succession of the then I. István High School Symphony Orchestra. The members of this orchestra came from a relatively wide age range, engaging young musicians from 14 up to 28 years old. Among various performances, the four-day guest appearance in Leipzig in September 2010 stood out. Since then, the ensemble has occasionally been invited as a partner orchestra to concerts of prestigious youth orchestras, including joint concerts at MÜPA with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, at Vigadó with the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra, and at the Gewandhaus with the Leipzig J. S. Bach Youth Orchestra. From the mid-1990s, conductor Gábor Horváth, a teacher at the school, gradually took over the work of József Záborszky. Under his direction, a 7-10 day music camp was held every summer in Tihany for two decades, where the ensemble performed open-air concerts daily for both foreign tourists and local residents. These camps helped the ensemble become musically and personally cohesive and homogeneous; the musical and pedagogical impact of these summer gatherings is still felt today. The repertoire is extremely wide-ranging, including the most famous overtures, symphonies, suites, and concert pieces. The orchestra considers the nurturing of musical traditions and heritage as its mission. The ensemble provides regular performance opportunities for talented young soloists and young conductors alike, emphasizing talent development and audience education. The orchestra participates in major festivals organized by EOFed, having traveled to Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2022, and in August 2024, it was the first Hungarian orchestra to take part in the major French music festival organized by Eurochestries in Charente-Maritime. The ensemble was awarded the distinguished title of National Youth Orchestra for three years from 2024 to 2026. The program length is approximately 70 minutes.
